Her spirit was split in two. It always had been, but this felt more final. A part of her was brought alive by the city, the work, the constant motion. That was the part that had brought her to Danny, and would always stay with him.

The other part he was about to let go, just like she had asked. This part would stay in Montana, stay in the wheatfields where she could try to outride the horses and the wind. It was the only thing she loved more than Danny.

He opened the box, and gave her to the wind.
